00:00
hi there it’s Asiya and today I want to share my tips on IELTS listening which
00:06
I’ve accumulated by taking the exam myself and also helping to prepare my
00:10
students who come to study in UK universities seven years ago that was
00:16
before I came to London I’ve got 9.0 in IELTS listening even though my
00:21
overall score was 7.5 and I think that’s a great section where you
00:26
also can get ahead okay let’s get started
00:34
the questions become more difficult closer to the end of the listening
00:38
section so don’t panic if you don’t understand something or you miss an
00:44
answer the thing is here you only need to answer 23 questions out of 40 to get
00:50
been 6 and 30 questions out of 40 to get been 7 so the reason margin for error
00:57
keep instructions in your head for example right now more than three words
01:03
or choose the correct letter it may seem easy but during the exam it’s easy to
01:09
forget what the task was your options may look like that and if you write the
01:14
word bread instead of a letter a it will be marked as an incorrect answer
01:20
IELTS is tough so keep concentrated there is a task where you need to write no more
01:27
than three words or it may be no more than two words make sure you remember
01:33
how many words you can write in the listening section don’t write your
01:38
answers on the answer sheet straightaway you will have 10 minutes at the end of
01:43
the task to transfer your answers so work on the question sheet and cross out
01:49
any incorrect options straightaway spelling counts when you’re transferring
01:55
your answers to the answer sheet make sure you write them down carefully and
02:00
it’s easy to understand preferable in capital letters here you need to pay
02:05
attention to singular and plural form of nouns for example cat or cats? these are two
02:12
different words also pay attention to prepositions if you have a sentence with
02:19
missing words then when you find those missing words the sentence should become
02:24
grammatically correct for example what is the answer at the museum or just
02:30
museum in our example it will be at the Museum what about British and American
02:36
spelling in IELTS both are fine as long as your answers
02:40
correct during the listening section there will be several shot breaks
02:46
use those breaks to look through the coming questions and try to memorize as
02:51
many questions as you can on the current page don’t go to the next page
02:59
once the recording starts it will be easier for you to recognize answers when
03:02
you already know your questions try to predict answers what are you looking for
03:09
is it a noun a name of a place a number or maybe a verb if you can imagine what
03:16
an answer would look like it will be easier for you to hear it even when you
03:21
don’t understand some of the words in the recording the questions might be
03:26
tricky because the information is presented in a misleading way let me
03:31
give you an example you are looking for a place of a meeting and you hear a
03:36
conversation between two people shall we meet at the library okay we’ll be there
03:42
ah even the library closed today okay see
03:47
you in the coffee shop instead you see first you could think it’s a library but
03:53
it turned out to be a coffee shop make sure you listen till the end try to keep
03:59
an eye on two questions of the current question and the next one sometimes you
04:05
may miss an answer and you should be able to quickly recognize it and switch
04:10
to the next question on time if you don’t know an answer make your best
04:16
guess sometimes you can guess right and there are no penalties for incorrect
04:22
answers when preparing for IELTS listen to British Canadian and Australian
04:30
accents those are quite different and all are used in IELTS listening now I have
04:37
